Individual therapy is a collaborative process between a therapist and a person in therapy. Individual therapy can also be referred to as psychotherapy, psycho-social therapy, talk therapy, and counseling. Whatever we call it, common therapy goals are to inspire change or improve quality of life. People may seek therapy for help with issues that are hard to face alone. With the guidance of a trusted therapist, working through hard issues often seem more possible.
Therapy can help people overcome obstacles to their well-being. It can also increase positive feelings such as compassion and self-esteem. People in therapy can learn skills for handling difficult situations, making healthy decisions, and reaching goals. Many find they enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware. Even after achieving therapy goals, many clients continue therapy for continued self-growth.
Dr. Matt offers a safe space for clients to work through and better manage difficult challenges in their lives. He gently encourages clients to talk about feelings of anxiety, depression, hopelessness and trauma. Whether clients wish to use therapy to work through life transitions, times of grief and conflict or to improve and strengthen coping or other life skills (or a little of both!), Dr. Martus helps clients to identify therapy goals and work toward achieving them.
